Walnuts are edible nuts of all trees of the genus Juglans (family Juglandaceae), especially the Persian walnut or English walnut, Juglans regia. Walnuts in Vietnam are often eaten as a snack, and can also be added to cooked meals, cereals and breads.
Unlike some other foods that are considered "nuts" for culinary purposes, such as peanuts, walnuts are true plant nuts. Once fully cooked, the skin is removed and the filling is eaten. Nuts of eastern black walnut (Juglans nigra) and avocado (Juglans cinerea) are less commonly consumed.
